We are a unique design practice as we create and transform places and spaces for people to dwell, work, eat, play, shop and live and also enable people to reignite their own inner creativity through creativity workshops and individual programs.

We are placemakers, we design places that are unique, have meaning and reflect the values and demographics of the communities in which they reside. We have expertise in creating a dynamic vision for our projects using creative thinking to consider design solutions in a new way.

We work with corporations, developers, asset managers, leasing teams and individuals to create an experience that resonates with all stakeholders, the client, the customers, the retailers and the community.

We are passionate about enabling people to connect with their own inner creativity and mental wellness through our workshops and personalised programs.

We enable creativity, meaning, vitality and beauty in spaces, places and people.

History

McBean and Co Design was established in 2000 as a Design Consultancy focusing on Retail Design. Our projects include multiple Shopping Centres, Department Store in Beijing China and smaller projects, retail store designs, cafes, restaurants and residential renovations.

Sally enjoyed a 13 year corporate hiatus as the Creative Leader and Head of Interior Design of Scentre Group (owners and operators of Westfield Centres in Australia and New Zealand). Working across the portfolio of 42 Westfield Centres and leading a team of talented designers and architects on multiple major development projects as well as many ambience upgrades of existing malls.

During her time at Scentre Group Sally became increasingly interested in creative thinking processes, realising that she and her team took this form of thinking for granted, but working with stakeholders from different disciplines understood that many people had been trained in more logical paradigms. She created a Creativity Workshop and guided a selection of people through creative processes and creative thinking. They found different ways of problem solving, were taught mindfulness practices and tools and realised they too were creative.

Sally believes everyone is creative.

Creative Integration

Sally realised her dream was to create beautiful places and spaces and to help people develop their inner creativity. McBean and Co was re established and Sally’s love of learning was reignited. She studied Creative Art Therapy and Immersive Guided Meditation to understand more about the psychology and science of energy in relation to creativity and our subconscious.

Sally has worked with wonderful clients reimagining spaces and places, creating concepts designs and undertaking ambience upgrades of existing centres.

Sally believes the future is transforming existing places and creating vibrant spaces that resonate with people emotionally, connecting communities and people to place.

Vision

Our vision is enabling creativity, meaning and beauty in spaces, places and people.

Our vision is to foster a sense of pride and belonging in spaces, reflecting the communities values, creating cultural significance, promoting engagement, reintroducing nature, creating spaces that induce wellness and play. Place is increasingly recognised as fundamental to our emotional health and we believe in creating places of wellness and aesthetic beauty for all to enjoy.

Our vision is also to reignite creativity and build creative confidence in people. Our workshops and individual programs are designed to reconnect people with their inner creativity, intuition and the ability to problem solve creatively. Our world needs more creativity, beauty and people who believe in the power of creative thinking.

Methodology

Our studio is founded on the holistic principals of creative thinking, collaboration, analysis and design. Every project requires research, a vision, and an appropriate design response to enable its relevance in the community in which it resides.

We work collaboratively with all stakeholders, our clients, the professionals who lease and develop spaces, retailers, asset managers, the people who maintain spaces and are seeing the spaces every day and of course the customers. This holistic methodology enables ongoing feedback, maintenance and ultimately success and longevity of any project, precinct, place, space or design.
